Paramount Poised to Drop HD-DVD Support

In what could be the final blow in the high-definition format wars, Paramount is set to drop its support of the HD-DVD format. Warner Bros. studio has recently said they would back the Blu-ray competing format and according to a Reuters report, Paramount has a clause in its deal that would allow the studio out should Warner Bros. side with Blu-ray. Transformers 2 Scheduled to Start Filming on June 2, 2008

IESB.net has posted an interview with Lorenzo di Bonaventura regarding his role as a producer of the upcoming G.I. Joe live-action movie. Towards the end of the interview, they did ask him about the filming status of Transformers 2 as he serves as a producer. Lorenzo stated that filming is currently scheduled to start on June 2, 2008. Filming is dependent upon resolution of the writer’s strike, as they current have a very fine outline to work off of but no complete screenplay. He also states that director Michael Bay has already designed “stuff” already and that he has quite a few great sequences imagined. Lorenzo also reiterates Michael Bay’s previous statement that Transformers 2 will deliver a bigger experience.

Black Incinerator: Japanese Version Revealed?

An auction on eBay from seller “etoyshunter” reveals a black version of Incinerator. Per a report from Transformers @ The Moon, indications are that this is the TakaraTomy version of the figure. However, there is no official confirmation that the figure in this auction is the Japanese version.

Transformers DVD Still #1 in Sales and Rentals for 2nd Week

Showing remarkable staying power, the “Transformers” DVD led the national sales and rental charts for a second consecutive week Wednesday.

“Transformers” beat back a strong challenge on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart from “Meet the Robinsons,” which debuted at No. 2 during the week ended October 28. On Home Media Magazine’s rental chart, “Transformers” posted a revenue drop of just 14% from the previous week to remain at No. 1 with $8.6 million.

Transformers Movie Star Shia LeBeouf Arrested

Transformers Movie star Shia LeBeouf was arrested on Sunday for refusing to leave a Walgreens in Chicago, CBS reports. However, unlike his on screen alter ego Sam Witwicky who stood up to an evil police car, Shia was polite and compliant with the police, and posted bond before 7 am. He will appear in court on a charge of criminal misdemeanor trespassing on November 29th.

Burger King Reports 3Q Net Income Up 23%, Movie Tie-In Helps

According to Reuters, Burger King is reporting higher-than-expected 3rd Quarter profit, helped by marketing promotions featuring the Transformers and Simpsons movies and a new chicken sandwiches on its menu. Net income rose 23% to $49 million, compared to numbers from the same period last year. Total revenue for the quarter rose 10 percent to $602 million.

After very positive third quarter financial reports from Hasbro, Viacom, and Burger King, it looks like any company who invested or promoted Transformers has reaped the rewards.
